Kalangatà

After more than 200 concerts in France and across Europe over the past five years, KALANGATÀ has always left its audience with a powerful memory — one of generosity and an addictive taste for the joy of living.

Kalangatà was born in 2019 from a spark of encounter and curiosity between Floriane Tiozzo, singer-songwriter, and Isaac Paiva, Brazilian accordionist. Quickly joined by Sylvain Jazédé, percussionist and drummer of South American music, the group was soon touring across France and multiplying its stages.

The crew was finally completed in 2023 by Emilio Rudoy, bassist with a modern sound and a rolling groove, and Leandro Lopez-Nussa, guitarist of Cuban origin.

While Kalangatà's early musical years were fed by a repertoire of traditional songs (Colombian cumbias, Brazilian carimbo, Angolan sembas, Cape Verdean coladeiras), the group is now committed to composing its own music.

Ao Som De Kalangatà (translated: "to the sound of Kalangatà") is the first song co-written by our crew. A subtle touch of samba woven with Afro guitar riffs, wrapped in Portuguese lyrics that claim what the sound of Kalangatà is: an open heart, a swaying of hips with arms wide open, a song of and for the world.

The compositions that followed ripple between a cumbia trance, a Caribbean kompa sway and hopeful chants carried by a Brazilian sound. The cross-cultural blend is at its peak, and the lyrics wear it as their garment.
